Businesses in England and Wales are facing new and stringent fire safety legislation. Four in ten businesses in the UK* are unaware of their obligation to carry out a fire risk assessment under the new Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order due to come into force on 1 October.
Despite a valiant and balanced 213 page interim report from Kate Barker in July advising the government to avoid more major change to the planning system the government is still implementing reform at an alarming rate.
After 23rd August 2006 no planning department will be able to grant an extension to any existing planning consent or renew without full details/a new application being submitted. Many current consents could now be refused or curtailed in a changed political environment.
