Civic Pride proposals for Cheltenham PDF Print
Overall the plans to regenerate Cheltenham’s Municipal Offices are a truly positive opportunity for Cheltenham, businesses and the council.

Not only will it will allow the council to move to fit-for-purpose premises but it will also create a vibrant central leisure destination for the town.

I wholeheartedly support the plans to create new hotel accommodation in the Municipal Buildings. The demand for another central hotel is huge, considering the influx of people to the area during the Cheltenham festivals. I feel the building would have maximum appeal to the hotel market if development includes an extension with new-build into the Royal Crescent area.

The enthusiasm for this project is tangible and will certainly bring an economic boost to the area whilst offering more choice to residents, businesses and tourists. I do have some concerns however, relating to the road plans and remain unconvinced they will solve travel concerns across Cheltenham. An integrated transport policy needs to reassure the public that cross town, car travel, public transport and car parking will be improved.

The success of this project rests with the council’s ability to deliver within a given time frame. Expectations are high within the town but the council needs to prove its credibility in order to meet if not exceed such expectations. This will require bold and brave decisions to provide new council offices, implement the Civic Pride proposals and develop the area around the Municipal Offices.
