Farming energy service launched
As farmers begin to explore the revenue potential of generating green energy and following the introduction in April of the new Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs), Bruton Knowles is advising clients to consider their energy use habits and to begin to make major savings with its new Farm Energy Assessment service.

From energy procurement, management of energy intensive farm equipment and exploring energy generation opportunities, all areas warrant a thorough review on most farms and are considered in this new service.  Launched in partnership with experts Farm Energy, Bruton Knowles’ newest service is designed to help farms of any size assess their current consumption and generation potential.

On farms, many simple factors can lead to excessive bills and wasted energy. From outdated farm equipment and traditional tungsten lighting to metering problems and long standing utility tariffs, there are a wide range of energy issues that can be simply, cheaply and quickly assessed with this impartial and independent review.

Traditional audit services have often been the preserve of larger farm businesses as substantial savings were needed to warrant the initial investment. However the new assessment from Bruton Knowles enables farms with bills from as little as £3,000 per annum to make economic savings as well as beginning to explore any revenue potential the farm may have from localised green energy generation.

Recent action from the new coalition Government has temporarily limited access to certain grant funding. However, other sources of support from agencies like the Carbon Trust still offer strong financial opportunities. Importantly, the Government continues to support the use of Feed-in Tariffs, as we collectively work towards the UK Climate Change Bill target of a 34% reduction in carbon emissions by 2020.  With agriculture making up 75% of the country’s land use, it will be important for farms to leverage their own waste-management & climatic opportunities afforded by technologies such as anaerobic digestion, wind turbines and solar PV to generate much needed green energy.

Equally important, green technologies can enable land-owners to become largely independent of fluctuating utility costs.  With a typical small scale photovoltaic scheme now repaying its capital expenditure well within 10 years, green energy can now provide additional revenue streams for many farms.

Whatever your farm’s existing energy use or renewable energy generation potential is, the Bruton Knowles farming energy team helps guide landowners and tenants through an often complex range of options.  Bruton Knowles offers a wide range of consultancy advice from a bespoke energy audit through to the pursuit of renewable energy grant funding, planning and grid connection guidance and project management support.  The farming energy service is tailored to the needs of your individual farm business and offset against its savings and revenue potential.
