In a further boost to the city’s regeneration programme, Wolverhampton City Council and All Saints and Blackenhall Community Development (ABCD) have announced they are seeking a development partner to work with them to regenerate 1.23 hectares (4.56 acres) around Vicarage Road / Raby Street and Gordon Street in the heart of All Saints, Wolverhampton.
Wolverhampton City Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Councillor Paddy Bradley, highlighted what the proposed development would bring to the area: “This is a wonderful opportunity to further regenerate part of the city that had previously been in decline for a number of years. “Providing more homes in this area is of major benefit to both these individual neighbourhoods which will help reinvigorate their local communities and will also add to the wider regeneration programme for the city. “This project will also hopefully bring new jobs into the area for local people during construction”, she added. Tim Clegg, executive director at ABCD, said: “There is already a great deal of interest in this proposed development from local people who want to live in high quality houses within walking distance of the City Centre and the new Transport Interchange. The regeneration of All Saints and the new developments in the City Centre make this a very attractive place to live.” The significant 1.23 hectare (4.56 acre) site is in a convenient location, close to Wolverhampton City Centre and just off the ring road. Wolverhampton City Council, in collaboration with All Saints Action Network (ASAN) and the local community, have already developed indicative schemes for the Vicarage Road / Raby Street and Gordon Street sites, which will provide 55 and 39 homes respectively. Ian Mercer, partner at Bruton Knowles, commented: “The proposed redevelopment in All Saints represents an exciting and unusual opportunity for interested developers. The site is in an excellent commuter location, underlined by the level of recent private investment in the area, which has already led to the redevelopment of the Benhams BMW and MINI showroom. The proposed conversion and redevelopment of the former Royal Hospital site will add further momentum to the area.” Interested parties wishing to make a proposal for the All Saints housing redevelopment must do so by 12 noon on 18th December 2009.
