Training is top of the agenda as we celebrate perfect pass rate PDF Print
The value of training in the workplace has never been more apparent than at Bruton Knowles in Gloucester where four candidates have recently achieved exam success.

Julia Allen, Gareth Lay and Matthew Williams have all passed their Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) exams at the first attempt, while Charles Overs has passed his Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), also at the first attempt.

Jonathan Smith, who has been a CAAV examiner and is part of the rural team at Bruton Knowles in Gloucester, comments: “The CAAV exams are not easy and involve 2 days of rigorous examining. Those taking the exam need to obtain a mark of 65% in order to pass which makes Julia, Gareth and Matthew’s achievement all the more remarkable.

If you add Charles’ APC success to this, the 100% pass rate is not only a tribute to the emphasis we place upon training at Bruton Knowles and the importance of supporting our recently qualified graduates, but also to the skill of the individuals involved.”

Gareth Lay outlines the importance of the CAAV qualification: “As members of an expanding rural team at Bruton Knowles, we knew the importance of the CAAV accreditation in demonstrating our professional competence to undertake the broad spectrum of work within the rural sector.

The guidance we have received from our colleagues has meant we have had continued encouragement since passing the APC, and the next logical step was to take our CAAV exams.  The day to day working knowledge we have built up since qualifying, as well as attending internal tutorial sessions, proved invaluable when it came to both the written and oral parts of the exam.”

The APC qualification is essential for becoming a chartered surveyor and upon joining Bruton Knowles, trainees are placed on the graduate scheme. This provides a diverse and structured programme of work, enabling each individual to experience all of the different professional skills first hand.  During their time on the scheme they receive specialised training and regular appraisals with agreed action points in preparation for the APC exams.

Bruton Knowles has a long standing history of training success, from the APC through to CAAV. Mentors are put in place to offer guidance and support and this has proved very successful in getting the best out of people, ensuring Bruton Knowles employees are some of the most knowledgeable in their field.

Having passed their exams, Julia, Gareth, Matthew and Charlie will be able to provide professional advice and valuation expertise on issues affecting the countryside, including tenancy matters, taxation, farm business management and rural agency.
