You can still appeal against the current 2005 Rating List PDF Print
Whilst occupiers are gearing up for the 2010 Rating List, which comes into effect on 1st April 2010, there is still an opportunity to appeal against the current 2005 List – up to 31st March 2010, which could result in successful appeals potentially producing backdated savings (including interest) to 1st April 2005. The Executive Agency of the Inland Revenue, the Valuation Office Agency (VOA), have started to write to occupiers advising them of their draft 2010 list assessments. Rateable Values of certain hereditaments have increased significantly, which may have financial implications for occupiers as well as owners.

If you have not yet received your draft 2010 Assessments from the VOA we can identify these on your behalf. Please contact us for further information.

Bruton Knowles has significant experience in providing professional rating advice to occupiers and owners alike, covering all aspects of rates savings, from appealing against the original assessment entered into each list, temporary and permanent reliefs, splits, mergers and appeals against Material Changes in Circumstances not physically affecting the property but have a material affect on the operation from a property.

In addition, our specialised rating software can manage the whole rating process, from serve the initial appeal through monitoring the appeal through the VOA appeals programme to interim and final reporting on potential savings achieved. This can be for an individual property through to a national portfolio. This software has the capacity to calculate liability and savings over each list, allowing for inflation, as well as calculation of transitional relief affecting rates paid between different lists.

The Rating Team at Bruton Knowles offers advice nationally on mitigating occupiers rates liability and has significant experience in a wide range of property types, as well as providing expert advice to public as well as private sector occupiers.

By appointing the right professionals to act on your behalf means that you maximise your savings and minimise the amount of rates that you have to pay. In addition, the general fee structure for rating is based on the savings achieved on behalf of the occupier and in effect is self financing.
