Esthwaite Water is being marketed by leading property consultants Bruton Knowles for a guide price of £200,000. It is situated in the South Lakes, between Windermere and Coniston Water and immediately south of Hawkshead.
Sam Spencer of Bruton Knowles said the lake was a once-in-a-lifetime purchase, offering stunning views and unrivalled tranquillity.
He said: “We’re delighted to bring this beautiful lake to the market. The history of the lake is of course a major selling point, with Beatrix Potter having created one of her most loved characters there and the lake famously inspiring the works of poet William Wordsworth.
“Then there is the peace and quiet of the place, combined with the gorgeous views and world famous national park location.
“The 237 acre lake and foreshore comes with an artists’ studio and café, as well as a licence to sell Beatrix Potter merchandise on site.
“It would be the perfect purchase for an angling or boating enthusiast, a naturalist business or just a lover of the great outdoors.”
The current owner operates a trout fishery on site and also offers osprey sighting venues around the lake. Fifteen small boats are available as part of the deal, which also includes a boat house as well as the separate café, artists’ studio and car park.
Sam added: “Offers in excess of £200,000 have been invited for the leasehold business. This site is truly spectacular and we would certainly recommend a viewing for those interested in finding out more.”
