The 4,000 sq ft Rush Skatepark – described as the biggest indoor skateparks in the region - won the Small Business of the Year category, sponsored by commercial property specialists Bruton Knowles.

Bruton Knowles Marketing director Chris Eldridge said it was great to see the traditional industrial shed brought back to life thanks to hundreds of local teenagers and families.

He said: “We have been marketing units in this location for some time so it’s great to see a traditional industrial unit like this being returned to the community.”

“We have been particularly active – and effective – in Stroud where Bruton Knowles Commercial Agent Julian Capewell has helped with a series of key deals.”

Julian sold the former BVM Moto site in London Road - a landmark motorcycle garage, workshop and forecourt on the main A419 road – to national  DIY chain Topps Tiles.

He has also helped steer new businesses to the Salmon Springs industrial park on the Painswick Road - now approaching full occupancy with a number of bespoke operators bringing the location very much to life.

Chris Eldridge said:  “Although Bruton Knowles now has a network of offices across the country we have never forgotten our Gloucestershire roots.”

“Small businesses can’t afford to think small and are very often at the cutting edge in terms of innovation and advancing technologies.”
He concluded: “Commentators might think the small business category was an odd choice for a company which has been around as long as Bruton Knowles.  But we regard fresh thinking, can-do start-ups and small businesses as the lifeblood of our economy – and our future.

“With around 5,000 businesses starting up in the county every year the sector plays a crucial role in Gloucestershire’s economy. We have an enviable track record for start-up business success with fewer start-ups failing in Gloucestershire than any other region in the country. The sheer number of new jobs created and maintained by businesses like these is also making an impact.”

The Stroud Life Business Awards have established themselves as the most prestigious event in the local calendar since they were first held six years ago.
