A £2 million project to refurbish Al Rayan Bank plc’s new operational headquarters in Edgbaston, Birmingham has been completed.
Interior fit-out specialists City Office Interiors and Bruton Knowles, which oversaw the project as contract administrators, carried out the multi-million pound refurbishment of the Grade II listed, three-storey property on Calthorpe Road on behalf of the bank.
The new HQ has a reception area, five meeting rooms, staff breakout area and two prayer rooms on the ground floor, a call centre on the first floor and a board room and individual offices on the second floor.
Al Rayan Bank moved to the new premises at 24a Calthorpe Road, part of the Calthorpe Estate, in September last year. However, minor works to complete the refurbishment have been on-going whilst the Bank has been in occupation.
Adrian Walsh, head of building consultancy at Bruton Knowles in Birmingham, said: “As a Grade II listed property, located in a conservation area, 24a Calthorpe Road came with the usual set of challenges in terms of internal and external refurbishment.
“The tight timescales of the project and the minor elements that needed to be completed after the Bank had moved in, created additional challenges, but we managed to successfully complete the refurbishment with minimal disruption to the Bank’s operations.”
Mohamed Gamil, chief operating officer of Al Rayan Bank, said: “We are very happy with the location of the Bank’s new operational headquarters and with the quality of the refurbishment. With 17,600 square feet of floor space, the new building gives us almost twice as much space as our previous premises and provides room for the expansion of every department.”
Al Rayan Bank, formerly Islamic Bank of Britain (IBB), is the UK’s only wholly Sharia compliant retail Bank.
