This year’s Cotswold Life EMI Awards could help many small businesses make the all-important jump from struggling start up to flourishing employer.
That’s according to Angus Taylor from commercial property specialists Bruton Knowles, who believes future products, ideas and innovation are crucial to the county’s economic effectiveness.
Bruton Knowles are sponsoring the SME Manufacturer of the Year 2016 category in this year’s Cotswold Life EMI business awards.
Angus, Head of the Commercial Team at the 150 year-old Gloucester-based firm, said: “Gloucestershire has an enviable record for startups and perhaps more importantly, for small firms and startups which have survived their first year and are still going strong into their second or third term.
“They need space to expand – but although the county dynamic is beginning to change developers have been notoriously cautious as they have not always been able to recuperate the costs of the building in the past.”
Angus Taylor went on: “Gloucestershire needs all its present commercial space and more if it is to keep pace with the increasing numbers of startup businesses being launched across the county.
“Pent up demand coupled with a marked lack of speculative development has reduced stocks of commercial space in the county. We believe the demand is there for developers to crack on with new build schemes – particularly smaller, startup units to encourage future innovation and growth.”
