The Gloucestershire Root Fruit & Grain Society Annual Dinner and Prize Presentations sponsored by Bruton Knowles was held at Gloucester Rugby Club on Friday 18 November to celebrate the cream of the crop of farming within Gloucestershire. The prizes and cups were presented by the Chairman Kevin Kingston and his wife Elise.

Boddington Estates Ltd won the most sought after and fiercely fought prestigious Premier Award for most points in all classes.

The Farm Championship was won by S J & L E Middle of Sandhurst and the Livestock Championship was won by R J & B J Kingston & Sons (Tresham) and the award for the Most Promising Young Farmer went to Ruth Gilder of H W Smith & Son.

The event this year set a new attendance record with around 275 guests enjoying the evening  dinner and awards.

Secretary Samantha Pennington from Bruton Knowles – who has been involved in organising the Society’s activities over the past 25 years said: “To say I was overwhelmed was an understatement, this Society continues to go from strength to strength and the standard of entrants who want to win gets bigger and better every year.”

To mark her long service, the chairman from 1991 Mr John Burcher presented Sam with a YSL handbag following donations from the membership and sponsors.

Land Rover kindly donated a half day off road experience and the President auctioned it off and raised £300. With other donations on the evening the society raised £1,200 for Maggies Cancer trust in Cheltenham.

The GRFGS was established in 1863 to ‘promote excellence through competition’.
