Mighty mills which helped power the industrial revolution in Gloucestershire are being given a new lease of life

Mighty mills which helped power the industrial revolution in Gloucestershire are being given a new lease of life as office suites.

William Matthews from Bruton Knowles said the imposing mill buildings which sprang up around Stroud and Nailsworth in the 18th Century had created enormous wealth for their owners – and were central to the area’s industrial heritage.

“Canny owners are looking at these mills not as monuments to the past but as business opportunities for the future.”

Bruton Knowles is steering firms to former mill buildings at the Mill, Brimscombe Port.

The Grade II listed mill has historically been refurbished and converted to provide good quality, open plan offices combining character, practicality and a picturesque riverside setting, not to mention parking provision.

“Just off the busy A419 Stroud to Nailsworth Road, Brimscombe Mill is around two and a half miles from Stroud with Junction 13 another five miles beyond that.”

The East Suite has come to the market following the departure of Provident, while the Ground floor of the Chapel is now available following the departure of Neil Carmichael MP.

Available in part or as a whole, the ground floor of the Chapel offers a total of 928 sq ft, while the East Suite office is 881 sq ft.

William Matthews added: “As a Grade II listed building it is exempt from EPC certification.”
Brimscombe Port dates back to the 1780s. But with the decline of canals Brimscombe Port was left stranded and the canals fell out of use.

It was later developed as an industrial site in the 1960s.
