Bruton Knowles appoints Nick Miles to lead Building Surveying expansion
04/11/2026
Bruton Knowles has appointed Nick Miles as Partner and to lead its Building Surveying team, with a remit to recruit, expand its regional coverage and develop work across its public and private sector client base.
Nick returns to the national chartered surveying firm where he began his career, having subsequently worked for Faithful+Gould and Vail Williams and most recently for BAS Property Consultants in both Birmingham and since 2011, the south coast. He will focus on business development and strengthening collaboration with Bruton Knowles’ valuation, planning, agency and property management specialists.
Based in Christchurch, Dorset, Nick will also target opportunities across Dorset and Hampshire, building on his established professional relationships in the region.
The growth strategy will focus on public sector organisations, developers, landlords and portfolio owners, combining building surveying instructions with opportunities arising from the firm’s wider property advisory work.
Nick said: “There is a clear opportunity to grow Building Surveying within Bruton Knowles, both as a service in its own right and through closer working with other disciplines. A valuation, acquisition or property management instruction can identify a need for building surveying advice, and clients benefit when those services are coordinated.
“My priority is to build capacity in the right locations and develop a broad client base. That means supporting existing relationships across the firm while securing work from clients who come to us specifically for building surveying expertise.”
Nick will also focus on providing practical advice on building condition, dilapidations, planned maintenance and improvement works, helping owners and occupiers understand the implications for their properties and investment decisions.
He added: “Clients want to understand what an issue means for their building, their lease or their portfolio, and what they should do about it. Our role is to translate technical findings into clear advice that helps them plan expenditure and make informed decisions.
“Bruton Knowles gave me my grounding in the profession. Returning to lead the team is an opportunity to bring that experience back into the business and build on it.”
James Bailey, Managing Partner at Bruton Knowles, said: “Nick’s appointment supports our plans to expand Building Surveying and make it a more substantial part of our wider property offering.
“He brings experience of working across disciplines and a clear focus on developing the team and securing new business. There is scope to provide more support to existing clients alongside building new relationships, particularly as we extend our regional coverage.”
