A national chartered surveyor has provided specialist advice for the development of a new £250 million government-funded railway station, which provides a significant boost to infrastructure and economic growth in the UK.

Bruton Knowles has supported long-standing client Network Rail with the UK’s first Great British Rail branded station, Cambridge South – strategically placed to support Europe’s largest centre of medical research and health science, Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC) and provide further direct links to other major stations including Cambridge, London, Stansted and Birmingham Airport.

The National Utilities & Infrastructure Team provided ongoing advice and support to Network Rail from inception to completion of the project. the team advised on land negotiations, complex agreements, compensation, access and compliance with and guidance through the Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) process.

Bruton Knowles engaged extensively with major private entities who were impacted in the area to ensure the efficient delivery of the new four-platform station, which will also act as a major precursor station for East West Rail (EWR), creating better regional connections, reducing journey times and boosting local economic growth.

Sam Dobney, Partner at Bruton Knowles and Head of Compulsory Purchase, worked on the project alongside Partner Theresa Tschainer, and Land Rights Officer George Barrett.

Sam said: “This is a significant piece of infrastructure, not just for the southeast, but also for the surrounding regions and their communities. Our team has worked extensively with Network Rail and other key stakeholders and entities to optimise the site’s location and maximise the boost it will have on the economy, and we are delighted to have contributed our land expertise to the project.”
