Bruton Knowles Strengthens Minerals Expertise with Key Appointment

28/11/2025

Bruton Knowles has expanded its minerals expertise with the appointment of Mark Stephenson as Senior Associate in its National Utilities & Infrastructure Team.

A Chartered Minerals Surveyor, Mark joins the firm following a distinguished career spanning mining legacy remediation, minerals valuation, estate and environmental management. He previously held senior positions at Aggregate Industries where he was responsible for aspects of the company’s estate across the South of England, Wardell Armstrong and most recently SLR Consulting, as part of the Crown Estate Minerals Team. .

The British Geological Survey’s latest report shows that 176.3 million tonnes of minerals were extracted from the UK in a single year, demonstrating the sheer scale of national minerals activity.

This sustained production level points to a stable flow of minerals projects nationwide, which Bruton Knowles’ new Minerals Team, headed by Mark, is equipped to service.

His specialist technical expertise in minerals and waste business sectors, land and estate management and environmental management, and experience ranging from large-scale quarrying and mining operations to complex contaminated land projects, perfectly place him to lead the new dedicated Minerals Team.

Working alongside Chartered Mineral Surveyor, Nigel Billingsley and Graduate Mineral Surveyor, Jack Piercy, Mark will play a leading role in expanding the firm’s minerals offering, developing national contracts and providing services for existing clients.

Speaking about his appointment, Mark said: “I was drawn to Bruton Knowles by the chance to join a national consultancy with deep, specialised regional expertise. The firm has an excellent reputation for its technical expertise and local insight, and I was particularly interested in its growing focus on minerals and environmental consultancy.

“I’m looking forward to helping grow the minerals business nationally, building on Bruton Knowles’ existing strengths, and mentoring the next generation of mineral surveyors. There’s a real shortage of expertise in this field, and it’s exciting to help develop that capability within the business.”

Nigel, who helped facilitate Mark’s addition to the business, commented:

“Mark has conducted extensive due diligence over the years, giving him a unique perspective on sites that allows him to uncover opportunities others might not immediately see. His expertise is invaluable to the Bruton Knowles team and he brings a welcome fresh perspective as we continue to strengthen our national minerals capability.”

Bruton Knowles, one of the UK’s most well-known chartered surveyor brands, brings extensive expertise to the Utilities & Infrastructure sector. With its National Teams – Valuation, Commercial, Utilities & Infrastructure – supported by Building Consultancy, Land and Development, and Rural Service Teams, Bruton Knowles offers a seamless, high standard approach to delivering complex client projects.
